COMPANY PROFILE

Lanka Spice (Pvt) Limited (LSL) was incorporated in 1984, with FIAC approval and commenced business with only 10 employees. Today the company employs over 150 employees at its fully owned factory premises in Makumbura, Pannipitiya.

LSL are the proud owners of the “Mc Currie” brand of whole spices, spice related powders, blends, baduns, sambols, pickles, chutneys, pastes, and ready-to-eat jar products. LSL spices are prepared using advanced technology, which vouches for the high quality of her products. LSL employs trained personnel and food technologists to supervise the entire process of fumigation, classifying, roasting, grinding, blending and packing of products, thus adhering to the rules and regulations of the food industry in Sri Lanka

The Company is accredited with ISO 22000:2018 for Food and Safety Systems, has a HALAL certification, ISO 14001:2015 on Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and is a member of the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX).

The company employs the SGS certification agency, a world-leading certification service that enables the company to demonstrate compliance with national and international regulations and standards.

LSL has five showrooms in Colombo, Sri Lanka which can be found at Maya Avenue, Colombo 6, Galle Road Mt. Lavinia, Makumbura, Nalanda (in the Matale District), Borella and Seeduwa. LSL in recent years adopted the concept of Showroom/Restaurant and today has two restaurants, one at its factory premises in Makumbura and the other adjoining it's Mount Lavinia showroom. The cuisine served in the company’s restaurants is exclusively produced by using the products manufactured by the company


Masala Range of Pre-cooked Curry Sauces

“Mc Currie” Masala Range are pre-cooked sauces the allow you to cook an authentic home-style Sri Lankan curry in a fraction of the usual time. Served in our restaurants and also in pouch and jars, these mouth-watering curry sauces are popular with both our local Sri Lankan customers and our international customers craving an authentic Sri Lankan cooking experience. The Masala range consists of curry sauces designed for chicken, fish, prawn, mutton/beef and squid (cuttlefish). They are packed in jars and come only as pre-cooked gravy with no meat or fish added. With the ever soaring demands of the food industry, both locally and globally, LSL in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Standards and Industrial Research (SISIR) has produced this superior product. The SISIR team worked tirelessly over 6 months, testing and trying out the curries, to finally emerge with a unique concept of serving curries to be cooked at home in a matter of minutes.


Plant and Machinery

LSL is equipped with the machinery necessary to manufacture the various products in its range and keep to international food grade standards. For example, we use a Buhler machine (Swiss-made) for cleaning whilst Christy Norris machines (UK made) are used for pulverization and disintegration. Other machines are from India and China. Upgrades of most machinery have taken place recently. LSL is also in the process of expanding its production line with state-of-the-art technology in machinery, which will be housed in a newly constructed factory premises adjacent to its present factory in Makumbura.


Laboratory

LSL has an in-house laboratory for the routine testing of raw materials, work in progress and finished products. In addition, a Research and Development laboratory has been set up to improve the quality of the existing range, and also to develop new products. The R&D team is proficient in matching existing recipes and developing new formulations as required by our customers.


Mc Currie Green Foods (Pvt) Limited

The Company expanded its manufacturing plant by adding an ultra-modern factory complex in the Nalanda Industrial Zone (in the Matale District of Sri Lanka) and this factory is now complete with state-of-the-art technology that has been sourced from overseas. This factory exclusively produces ready-to-eat jar products, which the company is looking at further expanding in the future.
